5th Annual Veteran Appreciation Project
EZRA USA Launches its fifth annual Veteran Appreciation Project to Honor Russian-Jewish Veterans of World War II
On May 5, 2013, in commemoration of those who bravely fought during World War II, the Jewish organization Ezra USA will honor Russian-Jewish veterans for the sacrifices and contributions they made in fighting against the Nazi regime. In connection with the organization's Veteran Appreciation Project, members of Ezra USA will visit Russian-Jewish veterans living in Brooklyn to personally thank them for their noble service during WWII. Each veteran will receive honorary gifts prepared by members of the organization, including certificates acknowledging their courage and selflessness as soldiers.
With less and less Russian-speaking Jewish veterans of World War II remaining, it is essential that we honor them now and keep the memory of their experiences alive. The Veteran Appreciation Project is an opportunity to do both, as it will honor veterans for the bravery they exhibited throughout the war and also expose program participants to their stories, enabling them to live on. Bringing together two separate generations of Russian-Jews will also serve to reinforce Russian-Jewish unity.
The Veteran Appreciation Project is representative of Ezra USA's focus on the Russian Jewish community in the United States. A Russian-speaking Jewish youth movement in the United States, Ezra USA is dedicated to strengthening the Jewish identity of young Russian Jews in America. The organization serves about 7,000 young Russian Jews. Ezra USA emphasizes the teaching of Jewish values, leadership development in the Jewish Russian community and, above all, the continuation of the Jewish people.
